A Quick Meal For Parrots

Congo African Grey Parrot
While shopping for pastas for my parrots at the local grocery store, I came across this interesting looking stuff called gnocchi. I checked the ingredients and it looked safe for parrots and super easy and quick to make so I decided to try it out and see if my birds would like it or not!
I made the entire bag since I have a huge flock of 8 parrots that can eat the stuff. They’re soft and potato-like in the bag and solid all the way through.

I wouldn’t recommend this as a daily part of your bird’s diet and it is always good to introduce new foods all the time so your bird is getting a huge variety and I am drawn to colorful stuff especially when it says “spinach” on it!
This stuff literally takes 2 minutes to make! You put it in a bowl of boiling water and all the pieces sink to the bottom. After two minutes of boiling, they raise to the top and that’s when you know they’re done. I couldn’t believe what a fast meal it was to make.

This is after just two minutes when all the pieces rose to the top to tell me it was done. The pieces were nice and squishy once they were out of the pot.

I admit, they don’t look that tasty but my birds said otherwise! I thought they kinda looked like “grub” from the Lion King… then I found out that gnocchi actually means “lumps” and that is pretty much what they are.

Camelot Macaw
My macaws, cockatoos and grey all dug right into the stuff. My pictures weren’t that great of them, sadly, but you get the idea. Always be on the look out for new foods you can offer your birds. Some may not be a daily part of their diet, and that is okay, getting them to eat a variety is good because you never know what might happen and what you will have available to you (I’ve gotten that moto from traveling so much and not knowing what fresh foods I can get the birds that day) so keep it exciting and different!
