Ok, Ok… so by Bandit, I mean his Bird Bandit ;-)

And for those of you a little worried about what is actually shown in this clip, don’t worry, it’s PG.

Ohhhh, by the way…that is my bird in the Pic of the Week and he is drinking RICE milk. Just thought all you bird lovers might get worried I was killing my bird with milk! He loves RICE milk!

Bandit is a “Galah” a common bird in Australia. I do wildlife rescue and rehabilitation in Sydney and have had many of these birds in care until they could be released back into the wild. I recently released 6 juveniles together as they are a flocking bird in the wild. They are granivores which involves feeding seeds, typically parrot seeds. I’m not sure what “rice milk” is but if it is not cows milk, that’s fine.
I have had a few escaped pet parrots in care and find them new homes. If I wanted a large parrot as a pet I would definitely pick a Galah, like Bandit. They are lovely birds,

Graham

What kind of Bird is Bandit … a beautiful bird … I lost my African Grey to a brain tumor and strokes.

Michele Holzman  03/18/2010 8:22 am

Hey you two:
Should you teach Bandit some respect? Naaah. Hope you feel better from your bad breakfast, Dave!
Jamie, we are getting a new Congo- a rescue named “Gus.” We think of you often & how incredibly sweet you both were showing us around.
Much love,
Michele & Bruce in Tallahassee, Fl.

Are your birds potty-trained? And when mine spies on me in the shower it means he wants to get wet and have a birdie bath!

Monique  03/18/2010 9:15 am

I”m guessing she’s pregnant? (brother’s wife, not bird) And it was so cute how Bandit kept raising his foot at your brother– wonder if he wanted the water or just to be on him?

Monique  03/18/2010 9:17 am

Hmm, breakfast not agreeing with her…I”m guessing she’s pregnant? (Dave’s wife, not Bandit) And it was so cute how Bandit kept raising his foot at Dave– wonder if he wanted the water or just to be on him? Cute video!

So funny! What a beautiful and intelligent bird.

I wasn’t worried about watching this. My cockatiel always sits on the shower door when I take a shower, marching back and forth, singing up a storm as I shower. However; he will not get in the shower with me. He will not take a bath, I have to spritz him, then dry him. During cold weather, he likes to be blown dry with the hair dryer on low, as I pass it back and forth on him.

Lucy  03/18/2010 10:14 am

Bandit is sooooooooooo cute!

Kal  03/18/2010 10:34 am

why to you think I want to see this??? Stop spaming my email already, please…

Emily Jordan  03/18/2010 11:57 am

My bird in the Pic of the Week is a Peach-fronted Conure, Wendy!! Thanks!

Allie  03/18/2010 12:58 pm

I actually built a shower perch out of suction cups and PVC pipe for my 5 year old lutino cockatiel, Nibbler. It’s close enough to the water that some of it splashes him if he stands in the right spot, but there’s enough space on it for him to just enjoy the steam if he wants to! He loves taking warm showers with me! We sing a mean duet together!

Jeff Brewster  03/18/2010 1:58 pm

Ithought it was hillarious…Bandit laughing at you in the shower. My grey congo Marly wacthes me shower all the time

Jeanie  03/18/2010 7:47 pm

That is a very confident bird!! You can tell how much he is loved.
I love to see a bird take control of the situation, fitting in perfectly and harmonously
with his family.
The first time I let my cockatiel see me take a bath,
she totally freaked out and was jumping up and down in the corner of the bathroom.
Have you ever heard a cockatiel “cry”? She was wailing.
She must have thought some evil thing had tore all my feathers off. It really up
set her, teriffied her. Now she joins me in the tub, running up and down my legs
and washing her feet. Jeanie

I really think Dave and Jamie must be getting some good laughs out of these comments!! (And especially Chet!) Did the breakfast not agree with you, Dave??? It doesn’t actually say here that you were in the shower…was the water running??? LOL!! So sorry…I’ll be quiet now…(smile).

Hope all is well now.

Emily Jordan  03/19/2010 10:33 pm

Jeanie–

So cute.I love my birds. But I can’t get my Love Bird to eat very good. And he will not let me touch him at all. Will eating the same thing everyday hurt him? Thanks Chet.

Dale Doyle  03/24/2010 4:36 pm

Two questions. What did he have for breakfast? Did he share it with Bandit?
