Hi Chet, we always enjoy your emails & especially your videos. We just got ourselves a young Sun Conure we’ve named Bonnie. It was hand reared so it it is quite tame & is trying to talk already it has only been with us 2 weeks.

I would love for my bird to learn some awesome tricks, but I am barely able to even touch him, let alone train him. ZaZu is African Grey Temnah (sp, ?). I got him when he was about a year old. The poor little bird is handicapped and does not have full use of one of his feet. He is so afraid of falling that merely coming out of his cage is much too traumitizing for him. He is a little better, but we have a long way to go. What we really need is a handicapped accessible cage. Currently he is in a conure cage because the wires are smaller and he can move around better. If you have any suggestions, let me know. Lorrie Palmer

Its good to hear from you, have you replaced your parrot?? I know how hard loosing a friend is.
You may want to warn your readers to spend $35.00 for a chip, a person we have known for several years went into my unlocked (a stupid thing to do) and picked up my very frindly bird, when confronted he said prove itd yours.
By the way i am looking for a young female gold cap conure hand fed or a bird two or three years old, my male isnt tame enough to handle so another bird like him would be fine to mate.
By the way we had lots of fun with your bird tricks, she was great to play with

Am really enjoying the clicker training CD’s and Video you sent me and have made some progress that my Rose Breasted Cockatoo and I are both proud of.
It’s slow but she is learning to trust me more and more since we started to work together.Her trust was zero when I got her a year ago after she had spent Twenty years caged in a dark hallway with a curtain draped over all but the front of her cage. No toys or company during the long days and fed a diet of mainly sunflower seeds.
As a result “incipient heart disease ” has been diagnosed.
Birds must be the most ill-treated of all “Pets” and your advice and videos has ensured I can give her the right diet and treatment for her remaining years.

Enjoyed the viedo had to call everyone in to see it. It was so great. I use pine nuts as a reward for my Umbrella when we are playing together. I think he is training me instead of the other way around because he does his tricks as soon as I walk in the room. Great Job.

I realy enjoyed the video, so adorable! I have 2 african grays one known female and almost positive male both old enough to breed. but having no luck. female wont have anything to do with male, she is afraid of him cause he bites her. what can I do, any one have any suggestions? also have a chattering lori, aai am quite sure is a male. Looking for a mate for him. Would appreciate any advice. Keep videos coming.

i really like the video i have a half moon parrot can i trach it the same as any other parrots and are they talkers,i got mine from a pet shop and i ask the sales man if it was male or female he said i dont know,how can i know what it is, the bird tend to try and bite i dont want it to bite my daughter,evey time she gets to the cage it hits the cage with ist beek

1. This is not a rose-breasted cockatoo. It is a galah, endemic to Australia.
2. Wild galahs roost in the gum tree next to my house. They love playing, and their natural fun is much more creative than this.
3. Teaching a bird to imitate a male canine is like teaching a circus bear to wear a skirt and ride a bicycle – sick. It could also encourage belief that birds pee – whcih they do only when they are very unwell.
4. When are you going to cough up the rest of the training package that I paid for and never received? My cockatiel is bored doing the same old tricks.
5. In Australian parlance, you’d be called a galah.

You’re right, this bird is called a Galah… but in most places besides australia everyone calls it a rose breasted cockatoo. But thanks for the sarcasm

I loved all the videos, and each of the birds are so beautiful in their individual ways! I have recently adopted a BEAUTIFUL African Grey, (congo) and she became very ill shortly after I recieved her; After rushing her to the vet, we found she was actually a female, eggbound and ill from the poison in her system; She just turned ten years old the week we adopted her, and the former owner was in shock that “he” was actually a She”!!! She is finally healthy now, so I’ll start clicker training soon.She loves to sit on my shoulder while I do just anything, especially gardening outside! We keep her wings trimmed because we are also raising cockatiels and canaries in the house, and “Pepper” wouldn’t be free outside her cage if she could fly to them. She loves to “talk” with them, I think we’ve made a wonderful adjustment. Thank you for everything you are teaching us, it is most encouraging to see it is possible to have a well-behaved bird with some simple rules and good training in the home. I believe Pepper is happier knowing we love her enough to help her become all she can be! In turn, she has blessed me with her wonderful brand of love, and I’m honored to share my heart and my home with her. I’ll let you know how training goes! By the way, last season I was able to teach twelve of our cockatiel babies to “Fly Home!” on command , at bedtime; It was halarious to see all twelve plus their parents flying from every knick and cranny in the house to their cages! to Larrie Palmer I have two handicapped Galahs and what a joy. The female doesn`t like me very much but loves my husband and will do anything for him. My male is my baby and does all sorts of tricks but has quite a bit of trouble as he can`t stand on two feet either but you can adjust with different tricks for them. MY male can`t stant on both feet or fly as he was brought out of the nest with wing broken and legs not in good shape either I am so pleased that I kept him. I have just put him in the avery with the female neither of them like each other at the moment but I will wate and see what happens I can always bring my male back inside. Love the videos and newsletters. My daughter 21 years old moved out needed to leave her blue fronted amazon. He likes her best in the family. I’m stuck with him after all he is family. He’s about 9 years old. Lately he has been attacking. I’m the only one who deals with him and I sometimes get the feeling that he blames me for her not being around. He has started to fly on to my head and when I get him off and try to pick him up he flares his wings, his eyes enlarge and he will talk and bite. Needless to say it pisses me off. I tell him no and he goes back home. Cage door closed. Please tell me which training CD’s to buy first and second. I’ll by one and daughter can buy the other…lol

Hi every bird lover/s Could you please help me with the following:
1:- I started with 2 eclectus vosmarie – what a fantastic blessing from above. My son build a breeders box for them they are now 10 months together a proper box so if something goes wrong via perspect the top/sides Lucy the female is all – with a half moon entrance and looks like she is ready for the mating session. Lucky the male is 2 years yonger than Lucy. I’ve test all by birds with prof Kingsley at Onderstepoort, he is happy with all of them no organ problems of any kind. My problem now: I’m not sure if this is a sign that the female is ready for mating, They to get all the food they need, very particular about the intake. I believe only in fresh products – veggies and fruit – with a parrot tonic in the water. They don’t want to eat any black sunflower seed must be white. Could you assist me with the mating proses I love my birds. All of them – I do have other species also but this is for a later discussion. Please advise me with a guide line. I have a cockatiel that my mother gave me. She got baby Molly when my parents moved out of town for my fathers work. They moved back to their home and could no longer keep Molly becouse of the cat my brother brought into the house while my parents were away. I love animals so I now have Molly. At first I could handle Molly and we got your video right away.In a few weeks Molly could ring a bell and throw a little ball. I next tried to teach him how to wave, but he started to shy away from me and now is afraid of my hands. He will still take food and step up, anything else…forget it. At first I took it personally but I know it has come from something I have done. I have been gential with my hands, I have stopped going into his cage for him, and I don’t chase him while he is on the floor, unless I have to get him fast. I don’t know how to reverse what I have done. He hisses and pecks at me if I brush my hair away from my face while he is on my shoulder. Molly is fast, and if he dosen’t like what I’m doing he takes off. I’ve tried to put my fingers near him slow and with click and treat rewards but no go. Could give me some ideas with what to do with a small bird that dosen’t want to be nice? Can I control him while going threw this process? He won’t stand still even with a
t-stand. I haven’t gotten your new video dealing with small birds yet. So could you HELP!!!!!!!! I don’t have your web sight address so that I can post questions, and read other peoples remarks. Clever little Rose Breasted Cockatoo – although, in Australia they are known as Galah’s. I have a seven month old Major Mitchell or Leadbeater Cockatoo, he is trying to talk, mimicking the sounds, but not prononciating very well. He has a great trick though. Dusty is a free flight bird, so when inside and he starts getting full of energy, we ask him if he wants a race? When he replies with ‘race’ we know he is ready, so we count 1, 2 ,3 go and he takes off from one end of the house to the other, in aim to beat whom ever instigated the race. Quite a competitive little fellow. Cheers from Australia.

How cute ,The birds love doing tricks,i can’t see this to be cruel in any way!it keeps their little minds going ,my cinnamin cockateal loves flying around the house, we are not sure if he is a male or female as it has only learned how to wolf whistle and a off tuned come here whistle.

Chet, I always love your emails and videos! You are so encouraging. I have an umbrella cockatoo named Lily. She is so precious and affectionate. Because of your vidoes I have condfidence with her and she has adjusted wonderfully. She loves to “give me her foot” when I get the nail file out to file her nails. She responds wonderfully to praise even more than she does treats! When we say “BIG BIRD” she fluffs all out and throws her head around. She definitely entertains us! I thank you for all you do and all of your expert advise. I could not have done it without your help!

2-3weeks now and i find it very interesting.i am just 13 yrs old and i
went to the pet shop one day in tralee co.kerry and in the pet shop
i saw parrot named angel and it was only 7mths and learning how to
say hello! And the second i came in the door i wanted it straight away
becaus she was the first parrot i ever saw in my whole life.
she was pure white in colour but nobody was allowed to her beacaus
a fellow came in a couple hrs earlier and tried to pickd her up and she
flew around the whole room hrs trying to catch her.
