Thank you so much for all of your ideas. I am a new owner of a beautiful Congo African Grey, Rogue.
After reading a lot about all kinds of parrots, and talking with my friend who has 5 different kinds of birds. I wanted an African Grey. My friend and I looked for breeders, and went to see a couple and found Rogue. She picked me to come home with in January of this year. She is my first parrot and we all love her dearly. I have been trying to find toys that she likes, and have bought some that she has actually thrown out of her cage. Rogue loves paper and wood, and can make a really big mess when left alone with a news paper. I read your article about the toys, and loved it. I never thought about any kind of cloth. I gave Rogue a wash cloth while she was on her play top, and she started to pick it up with her feet, the next thing I knew she carried it in her cage. Well now she has taken it in and out of her cage at least 3 times just today. Thank you, and Rogue thanks you too.

I HIGHLY recommend the toy of the month program if you’re not already signed up! My grey was very phobic of new toys and also very picky when it came to foraging toys. And thanks to this program I was able to provide her with so many different options, and help her discover that playing and foraging is fun! I had to hide the toys in a cardboard box at first so she wouldn’t be scared of them, but that just added to her enjoyment. This program is an incredibly good deal, and definitely worth the money

I Loved the toy a month program and reccommend it to every one with a bird..
A shame I had to cancel my subscription because Australian Customs continually confiscated my toys.
nathan 08/16/2010 3:08 am
i think it is good for cockatielssince they are medium size parrots and equal to a big conures
Sarah 08/16/2010 5:58 am
Belinda – Thats a shame about Australian customs as I would have loved to sign up! was it just the toys with leather, pine and wood? or the plastic/acylic ones as well?
Kerry 08/16/2010 6:16 am
i would love to have the new toys, but here in rainy UK, I live on a remote farm in the Lake District and am only on Dial-Up therefore although I signed up and joined Bird tricks about a year ago, all the video emails I get I cannot watch due to the slowness of D|ial up, I will send an email to Chet and ask if you could send me a written dialougue of his movies instead!
My parrot was a rescue case, when I was involved in the flooding last year at a place called Cockermouth (don’t laugh at the town name..lol), I went into the house of an elderly lady who was stuck at the top of her stairs, the African Greys cage was floating in the flood water around her kitchen, when we rescued the lady safely into the boat she asked me to find a home for Maddie….she came home with me, she tolerates me, but is madly in love with my husband..typical. Would never part with her, she is so gentle…….sometimes..lol

Hi Chet, I enjoy all the comments and mail that I get from your site.. it is very helpful. I am Canadian and live in Africa, Nigeria. I have a true African Grey congo, true in the sense that she was born here in the wild and now lives with my husband and me. She is such a wonderful joy and we love her to pieces. Her name is Martha May. She honestly is like a little child. She talks up a storm and can say lots of words and phrases…maybe because I am home with her most of the time and we talk back and forth all the time. Of course there are no pet stores here and toys for birds are not available.. at all here. So I have had to be very inivative in finding things that she will like and that keep her entertained.. She is only caged at night and so follows me around like a little puppy wherever I go.. She is absoutely wonderful.. but at times a challenge.. She loves to play on the bed and under the blankets, so cloth is here thing, but that is not the only thing she likes.. she has adapted well to many toys that I have made her or given her… from bottle caps, to lids from jars, plastic bottles (she loves to chase those around the floor), one of her favorite things is a tablespoon wrapped up in a plastic bag. She will sit on the kitchen cupbord door and play with that for hours.. just moving it around in her mouth, she seems to like the sound of the plastic crinkeling in her mouth. She doesn’t eat it at all just plays with it. I give her hard plastic lids from all types of containers, after washing them well first, and she loves to get new things.. She has a laundry basket, which she loves to play on and in and choose her toys from there.. which are many.. I was home last year and purchased some toys from the pet store for her and that is the first manufactured toys she has ever seen. Her first toy was a pair of panty hose braided and knotted and that she played with for months.. with platic tops braided in . She loved it.. Because she is able to go outside whenever she wants, as long as I am with her or near by.. she is well stimulated.. and she seems well balanced.. but for sure wants attention most of the time.. but we love her so much.. She seems to have a fasination with my rose bush and prunes it for me regularly… haha… She also loves rocks.. she has a collection of them and beads as well…she will sit and mull a bead around in her mouth for hours.. These birds are amazing.. and a wonerful pet.. we have lots of fun with her.. I clip her wings, so she is able to walk around freely outside.. and have fun.. Lynn Umoh

Wow your really genouress thanks.I’ve been on so many websites and they tought me nothing you have tought me heaps I’m not saying your techniecs don’t work but they don’t seem to work on my bird I guess my bird just wants to be stubborn and scream and bite sometimes he is happy sometimes he is angry whenever I walk in he attacks his mirror when I got him he was a tame budgie when I got a dog I sort of forgot him and ever since he has hated me I think I’ve given up on him.

picking a toy with them is just common sense……smaller birds needs a smaller toy and ofcourse for bigger guess what?…. yes it should be big toys!

Hi
My parrot eco love’s to play with new toys, so off to the op shop i go. I bought him a babies play rug, attached to it is a fluffly carrot, a mirror, rings and pockets, eco love’s it. I also bought him one of those kiddies teddybears where the child learns to fasten buttons, buckles, zips and shoe strings. Eco sits on my knee nearl every night and plays with the teddy whilest i watch the tv.
The op shop is a great place for all cheap toys, but be careful they must be baby safe and you are able to wash them. If they are safe for babies i am sure they are safe for a parrot. I gave eco a shoe box full of hard plastic sticks, he loved taking them out and throwing them of the top of his cage. He still likes to chew the furniture now and again so i chase him and then he likes to chase me.

Hello,
Thank you for offering a free bird toy! But I own 2 parrotlets! (The smallest parrot in the world!) so I do not if the “small” bird toys will work if you can (I know your vary busy) but do you mind sending me a picture of the small bird toys?
Margaret 08/16/2010 12:17 pm
My Green Cheeked Conure has never liked any of the toys I’ve bought for him. Also, most of the toys at he pet stores are too big for him. My Conure, “Cheeky” loves paper clips, which I discovered by accident one day, when I had some papers in my hand, held together by a paper clip. He kept trying to get at the clip, so finally I gave in and let him get the clip off of the papers it was holding. He got it off, and then proceeded to play with it for over an hour. That was months ago, and he still loves to play with paper clips. He also loves other small metal objects like the spring coil off of the inside of a click ball point pen. I think he loves them so much because he can get his little beak around it, and it gives when he bites down on it.
Jill Starbridge-Kobold 08/16/2010 12:47 pm
Thanks for doing all the foot work on what is best for bird toys. Most pet stores have not caught up on the need for organic or non toxic toys. It seems like you know what you’re doing. And my parrot is getting happier every week. She has started to talk and make fun.
I ABSOLULTY LOVE YOUR VIDEO’S. UNFORTUNETLY I AM ON A VERY LIMITED INCOME. SO I DO SPEND WHAT I NEED FOR PEANUT. I REALLY LOVED THIS TOY. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THE INFORMATION YOU GIVE. IT HAS HELPED ME SO MUCH WITH MY BEATUIFUL PEANUT SHARON
Lynn Jowers 08/16/2010 1:16 pm
Chet – I have a very large wrought iron cage – is it safe for my birds to paint this cage, and if so, what type of paint can I use?
My birds love to play, All three of them play with there toys all the time.

When Pokie (our beloved but beastly Mini Macaw) gets ansty, my new simple trick is to wrap a nut in the middle of a piece of paper, folded over as many times in as many different directions as possible. Each piece lasts about 5 minutes… but it’s a great quick fix! This evening I’ll sit down with a stack of paper and various types of nuts to create a mini artillery!
Just signed up for your toy program – we’ve been looking for something like this for a long time.
Thank you!!

Question: My Blue Crown Conure seems to be terrified of new things placed in his cage, whether a new toy or some other food dish, etc. He will sit as far from the item as possible for days and even be hesitant to leave the cage to come be with me.
‘Any advice on how to help him get over this “paranoia”?
Thanks

Chet, My Lovebird is 3 years old, she was hand fed and I have had her since she was about six weeks old. Tweety is spoiled rotten, she no longer goes in her cage ever. We have Tweety proofed our bedroom and when we go to work we shut the door. The problem is she no longer likes any bird toys she is happy with a ball, a box, an easter egg etc.. I have stopped buying toys. Are there any toys that you could suggest I get for her that might keep her busy and she will like. She stays pretty busy all day with the her the things that she has but, should she have bird toys? Thank You for all of the helpful information you have given me in the last three years.
Anne Duell 08/17/2010 12:41 pm
Tony 2 year old african grey loves of the toys we get. , he likes paper and soft wood, and cloth and buttons. this sure beats trying to find those toys in the store. Anne Duell

Thanks for the free toy offer. Unfortunately it will be too big for my bird, she’s a Love Bird with a very large personality. But I love the toy and plan to make a smaller one for my bird.
Hi there, you offer all these free toys but when I send my particulars, I get a reply saying it is only valid for people in the States. I am sure there are stacks of people here in South africa that would love something as nice as the toy you show on your video. Please wont you see what you can do for us.

I can not afford to join the toy of the month club. I wish I could. I have a Military macaw and because the economy went South so did my income. I need some advice on safe toys that I can make my self. She has started to over preen herself. Someone is with her most of the day and she talks to us and to our dogs but I know she is bored because of the over preening. I could never give her to someone else that can afford all the toys. I am too afraid that someone would mis-treat her. I hear horror stories. I just need ideas on things I can make myself to keep her entertained
Thats so amazing to see your interest in making our caged birds more happier and good natured birds. The toys really make the birds go happy and give them a good chance to celebrate their love for playing. My Blue Gold Macaw likes the toys made of wood. Rather i put small pieces of plank wood and hang them up with the non-toxic wire inside the cage. He loves to play with them in the cage and even on the playtop. ‘
Great training and great ideas you have sir.

I have a Blue and Gold macaw i put toys in his cage all the time but he does not show any interest. I know he is board because of his new behavors. I am considering the toy of the month program and i am very intersted in the free toy. because, it looks like something he might be interested in because he is food motivated some times. How ever that is a huge amount to invest if he is not interested. concerns me.
what do you suggest

Arthur is my blue and gold
Hi Chet, I enjoy and learn alot from your e-mails. I have purchased the ‘starter kit’ (47.00), and would like to have this toy, and more, but I am a senior with limited income and really cannot afford the monthly toy. (I saved for months to get the strarter kit!). I’m making slow progress with my blue and gold macaw Matey, and his screaming, but it is progress. Thank you for being there for those of us who need help with our feathered friends!

Hey Chet, you obviously know and love these birds, Parrots, Conures, and smaller birds, I have a blue front amazon, a very nice bird, very good looking too. Are you telling me that this toy is suitable for him, his beak has a crushing pressure of 400 to 500 lbs per square inch, he can quite easily open walnuts, if I put this in his cage, as his only source of food, I think he would not only tear it apart, he would rip off my finger, when I come to feed him, come on Chet, get a grip on real life
Shirley 08/18/2010 7:47 pm
I have a lorikeet and have a very difficult time trying to find toys, treats and training or medical advice. Can you help me out with any of these issues?
Hi Chet,i was wondering if you can help me i have a cockatiel and every time i leave the room she seems to scream alot and the screaming is very loud its very ear piercing
Kristin Martin 08/18/2010 10:41 pm
I think this is awesome how u r doin this with the free toy your videos have helped a lot and are great for new bird owners as I own 4 parrots
You could use seeds or even juice for training as treats with your lorikeet. As for what to train and how, our courses are meant for all types of parrots as are our toys that can be found here http://www.birdtricks.com/ and here http://www.birdtricks.com/store/toys.html

Dear Chet,
I had an Indian ringneck parakeet (basically because their not too expensive) and built a trusting relationship with him. But it got a little too trusting. He would scream the moment I left the room. So I have had an idea to keep him occupied-
(You know that when you use a paper puncher there’s a lot of split small circles coming out)I decided that to keep him occupied while I’m not there, I’m gonna fill those circles in a small bowl. Then, to get his attention, I’m gonna put a sunflower seed (his favourite treat) on the very top, and hide 4-7 in the paper mache.
What do you think?
Your #1 fan,
Ammar.

chet I want to thank u for all the helpful info it has been very helpful. i had owned an Umbrella cockatoo years ago n then got a sulfercrested cockatoo thinking they would b similar in attitude boy was i wrong you have helped me learn more. I look forward to learning more everyday

This program is an incredibly good deal, and definitely worth the money
exellent toy and parrots have fun thanks a lot
I Loved the toy a month program and reccommend it to every one with a bird..
A shame I had to cancel my subscription because Australian Customs continually confiscated my toys.
i think it is good for cockatielssince they are medium size parrots and equal to a big conures
Belinda – Thats a shame about Australian customs as I would have loved to sign up! was it just the toys with leather, pine and wood? or the plastic/acylic ones as well?
i would love to have the new toys, but here in rainy UK, I live on a remote farm in the Lake District and am only on Dial-Up therefore although I signed up and joined Bird tricks about a year ago, all the video emails I get I cannot watch due to the slowness of D|ial up, I will send an email to Chet and ask if you could send me a written dialougue of his movies instead!
Damn Australian customs. I was just signing up for program while reading this and now I dont know. My sun conure will have to miss out I think =( my poor lil man
picking a toy with them is just common sense……smaller birds needs a smaller toy and ofcourse for bigger guess what?…. yes it should be big toys!
Thank you Chet, But I leave in Athens Greece, and I know I cannot purchase anything of your amusing toys since you don’t send them abroad! I am an owner of three!! An Amazone and two mini Macaws! The Amazone, IRA has a large repertoir of love words and sentences, and is my favorite! Got them all for more than seven years now. Thanks for all the informations and videos you send! Great job!! Danae
Thank you for the information, i have a blue fronted amazon he’s having a cloacal problems(sexual problem behavior), the vets recommend keep him busy and give him a lot of toys.
Thank you for the program!

Hello,
Thank you for offering a free bird toy! But I own 2 parrotlets! (The smallest parrot in the world!) so I do not if the “small” bird toys will work if you can (I know your vary busy) but do you mind sending me a picture of the small bird toys?
Thanks for doing all the foot work on what is best for bird toys. Most pet stores have not caught up on the need for organic or non toxic toys. It seems like you know what you’re doing. And my parrot is getting happier every week. She has started to talk and make fun.
Thanks.
Jill

U rock dude !

Tony 2 year old african grey loves of the toys we get. , he likes paper and soft wood, and cloth and buttons. this sure beats trying to find those toys in the store. Anne Duell
i have a senagel parrot and she is consider a small bird and also my family is on the verge on bankruptcy

Hello Chet
I find your program very knowledgeable and interesting. I have Grey African Parrot for 7 years now. i am second owner, he has got use to us. we named him Allah rakha, before he was just whistling, but now he speaks our languages hums songs and is very playful and naughty at times also.He is loving and kisses and wants to pampered. Most of the times he is enjoying outside view through our balcony,we have left him free he enjoys his freedom. All above all he very sweet and darling of everyone at home
Thank-you so much for the videos you sent me. I’ve owned a sun conure for 14 months now he is soo adorable. Where can I send you my home address for the free bird toy you emailed me about thank-you sooo much.
I just need ideas on things I can make myself to keep her entertained
hi i need this toy
I just received my email today (8-18-10) about the free toy. I’m sad that I didn’t get it in time for my birds to enjoy this.
Chet. Where is the link for the free toy?
Bill
HI Chet,
Thats so amazing to see your interest in making our caged birds more happier and good natured birds.
I just wanted to thank you for all the helpful hints. I have a Red Fronted Macaw we got him from an induvidule an he was biting alot. He is finally calming down an just gives a warning when he dosn’t want to be messed with.
I like yours recomendatios and get some for my macaws
Great toy my parrots love them
I have a Blue and Gold macaw i put toys in his cage all the time but he does not show any interest. I know he is board because of his new behavors. I am considering the toy of the month program and i am very intersted in the free toy. because, it looks like something he might be interested in because he is food motivated some times. How ever that is a huge amount to invest if he is not interested. concerns me.
what do you suggest
Diane Marquez
Arthur is my blue and gold
Its awesome
Hi Chet, I enjoy and learn alot from your e-mails. I have purchased the ‘starter kit’ (47.00), and would like to have this toy, and more, but I am a senior with limited income and really cannot afford the monthly toy. (I saved for months to get the strarter kit!). I’m making slow progress with my blue and gold macaw Matey, and his screaming, but it is progress. Thank you for being there for those of us who need help with our feathered friends!
Dear, thanks a lot

I am trying to buy a small Cockatiel to train him, since I cannot afford an expensive bird. Does it make a difference being a male or a female? Any suggestions?

You maked me understand my parrots and love them a little more every day. Thanks so much!!
i have really learned alot from your videos
Muchas gracias por compartir información tan útil me a servido muchísimo para cambiar ciertos comportamientos no deseados.
Hey Chet, you obviously know and love these birds, Parrots, Conures, and smaller birds, I have a blue front amazon, a very nice bird, very good looking too. Are you telling me that this toy is suitable for him, his beak has a crushing pressure of 400 to 500 lbs per square inch, he can quite easily open walnuts, if I put this in his cage, as his only source of food, I think he would not only tear it apart, he would rip off my finger, when I come to feed him, come on Chet, get a grip on real life
I have a lorikeet and have a very difficult time trying to find toys, treats and training or medical advice. Can you help me out with any of these issues?
Hi Chet,i was wondering if you can help me i have a cockatiel and every time i leave the room she seems to scream alot and the screaming is very loud its very ear piercing
I think this is awesome how u r doin this with the free toy your videos have helped a lot and are great for new bird owners as I own 4 parrots
We have a solution for that, Annie, check out the screaming course; http://www.birdtricks.com/store/scream.html
You could use seeds or even juice for training as treats with your lorikeet. As for what to train and how, our courses are meant for all types of parrots as are our toys that can be found here http://www.birdtricks.com/ and here http://www.birdtricks.com/store/toys.html

rainbow lorry’s are stupid but some are smart
Dear Chet,
I had an Indian ringneck parakeet (basically because their not too expensive) and built a trusting relationship with him.
