The “Interrupting” Amazon Parrot

 October 26th, 2009
Posted By:
Chet

This video was taken when Dave and his wife, Jamie, were out freestyle flying with one of their clients Amazon Parrots, Storm. As you can see, he’s quite the little interrupter ;-)

If you’d like to check out the other video clips from our most recent Freestyle Flying (TM) trip, we’ve been posting them as webisodes on Youtube. Click here to check them out!

And just to give you a heads up, the stuff you see us doing with our parrots in our Freestyle Flyers webisodes is SUPER advanced, so don’t go trying this stuff on your own. You should not attempt to train your bird to fly outside without the direct supervision of a professional, and even then there are very real risks that must be considered.

That was great, every single time Jamie started talking, so did he. It sounded like when you were a kid and your friend would try to say everything you were saying at the same time. He’s a beautiful bird and he really loves Jamie.

She talks too fast and too high pitched – that’s half the problem, tell her to slow down to a blur. Too funny! Next time, get the guy to do the commentary.

Joan Fish  10/27/2009 10:07 am

I was so moved ! My birds fly around my house, but don’t always come when I call. I can see how important it is to train them to come when called, just in case.

Rick and Danielle  10/27/2009 5:43 pm

Excellent!!! I beleive they could have a talk show.
Who would be the host?
Very special.
Keep it feathery.

Barbara DelGiudice  10/28/2009 8:08 pm

This is so hilarious!!! Is this cute little parrot a girl? What is he or she saying to Jamie? She reminds me of an over excited little kid that cannot control himself when to speak!

Dave and Jamie you do amazing working with this little cutie pie.

Sometimes my grey cockatiel, Baby who is 12 years old will interupt me with loud cheeps when he is feeling short with me. lol.

Barb :)

Barbara DelGiudice  10/28/2009 8:10 pm

Oh sorry it clearly says Storm is a he :)

Evie  10/28/2009 8:21 pm

Too funny! Sometimes my macaw does that when I’m trying to ask him to do something like step up or come out of his cage. I realize what he’s doing and I stop talking and eventually he stops and listens to me.

TAYLOR  10/28/2009 9:15 pm

Bert  12/18/2010 3:20 pm

That reminded me of the movie “Cop Out.” I’ve been sending this around to all my friends. What a hoot! My Amazon does the same thing whenever I’m on the phone. Sometimes when he gets going I can’t get a word in edgewise! Great video. Thanks.

Deb Moorland  03/31/2011 2:50 pm

I have 2 Amazon parrots – one of them for almost 30 years. they are wonderful. This looks very scary to me. Right now it is pretty low altitude flight, but he will get stronger. My sisters family lost a beloved cockatiel into the tall trees of Georgia. They thought his wings were clipped. Never got it back. Something could spook him, and he could be gone. Also should be careful to not over exert a bird that is used to being sedentary. I am sure as a professional you are taking all this into consideration, but some will get excited and try it on their own. Sorry I am such a worry wort, but just want to present the other side.

diana graves  07/05/2011 8:26 pm

I would love to do that with my green cheek conure, just in my back yard but we have owls, falcons and eagles flying over and kiwi freaks out just seeing them through the window! One actually tried to take kiwi off my shoulder as we were in front of the computer about 3 feet from a window, the owl almost hit the window screen. So I dare not take him outside. I have watched your video 4 times now! Totally Awesome

The Dalai Farmer  08/20/2011 3:36 am

Why? Why won’t he let her speak? What fascinating behaviour! I’m glad my Hahns doesn’t do that.
