*** A Client’s Success Story ***

I just read Chet’s latest email and wanted to relate something our Goffin Cockatoo picked up primarily on her own. She used to hang on the edge of her door and beg for us to come get her with an unpleasant call. My husband started telling her to “ask pretty” and in about two days she was whistling instead (an already established sound). He may have whistled to her a few times at first; it’s been quite a while since we taught her this.

She also uses the same call to keep in contact with me when I’m out of the room (I whistle back until I return) and to let me know she’s up and ready for the cover to off in the morning. I believe she picked up the whistling her first summer, listening to the songbirds out back.

Great Job Patricia!

I’ve talked about this technique before, and it’s awesome that it’s working for you.

It’s a perfect example of a bird learning what’s called a “Replacement Behavior”.

And it’s based of the principle that it is MUCH easier to train a bird to do something different, then it is to get him to STOP doing something completely.
But some people reading this will say to themselves, “I love what your bird does, Patricia, but my bird doesn’t whistle or talk, or do any behaviors that I could replace his screaming with.”

So if you’re reading this right now and you’d like your screaming parrot to learn a “Replacement Behavior”, you need to do TWO things.

1) Train your parrot to talk on cue

2) Make sure he’s not bored out of his skull

To train your parrot to talk on cue, we have a program called Teach Your Parrot to talk, that I’d highly recommend you go and get.

It’ll show you what research has shown are the most effective ways to get even stubborn birds who don’t seem to want to talk, to willingly talk for you on cue.

And as usual, I back it up with a 100% money back guarantee, so if your bird isn’t learning new words in the next 60 days you can get all your money back — so there’s nothing to lose.

You can get that program by clicking here:

But that might not be all you need…

The best “Replacement Behavior” training in the world, won’t help a bird BORED bird to stop screaming.

That requires something else.

It requires you to create an environment for your bird that forces him to search for food for 3-4+ hours out of the day.

And this may be a bit of a shock, but the best way to do this, is to actually remove your birds food from his food bowls, and instead hide it in a variety of different toys he has in his cage… called Food Finding toys, or “Foraging Toys”.

Lots of different companies make Foraging Toys, or toys that you can hide food in.

And you MUST go get some if you want your bird to stop screaming and be happy.

It’s the only way to preoccupy a bored birds brain for several hours during the day that you can’t entertain him.

If you’ll use this combination of eliminating your bird’s boredom, along with training him to talk for attention instead of scream, you’ll be well on your way to stopping your birds screaming for good.

Also, if you’re REALLY serious about putting a stop to your bird’s screaming once and for all, we’ve created an advanced training program specifically for stopping screaming, here:

Here’s hoping you found this helpful!
