We have a Conure that was between 3-4 months old at Christmas ‘07. We call Woody, he but we really don’t know if Woody is a male or possibly a Woodette? Woody is a very good bird are main problem is he screams. Woody’s cage is in the corner of our dining room. Our kitchen flows into the dining area, which flow into the livingroom. When I am home I am in and out of the kitchen alot. As long as I am in the kitchen our bird is pretty happy. Everytime I leave the kitchen to go out of sight to the laundry room or pantry Woody usually starts screaming. When I return it is as if he got his own way and I returned. No, I just needed to go to another part of the house and returned to keep cooking. Woody even finished his screaching with a different sounding noise at the very end of hes screaching as if to say “There I got my way.”
HELP I leave for a five day convention May 25th. When I return my husband who got me the bird as a Christmas gift (total suprise) is tired of wearing ear plogs when the bird screaches until he quiets down.
I’ve got a Blue and Gold Macaw named Elvis, who tolerates me and is infatuated with my wife. When Elvis screams, its like a circular saw running at top speed cutting through steel, as if it were about an inch away from your ear. Elvis is screaming about attention, and it can be very painful. I’m interested in finding out what can be done. I look forward to your update.
Hello,
I received your email today and am on limited funds. I would LOVE it if my cockatiel, TJ, would come to me, obey me, not come at me to bite me, would not use me for a toilet, and would talk more.
My 6 mo. old peachface Lovebird has a screaming problem when someone turns the TV on and sits in the room to watch it without placing him as the center of attention! He is tame, yet sees TJ striking at me to bite me and is starting to copy him!
I need training so they will be great kid substitues!

Chet, Luigi my blue and gold macaw, 2 years old has all of a sudden become a screamer. I dry my hair, vaccum, or anything with noise he screams. If men come near him he screams….(I took him to work and it was a terrible) No one could even talk to him. I can call his name and he stops but why did he do this all of a sudden? I mean he as a little in the pasted but now he is so loud. Please help before I am told to move……!!!!!
Actually, anyone at the moment that comes near Luigi is acting out. Please help!!!
I have a umberella cockatoo that screams alll the time to get out of his cage and I can’t let him out without someone to watch him because he chews whatever he can get hold of up. He screams so loud that one of my dogs starts howling, it’s very annoying..
I have a lovebird. He no longer screams to get attention because we ignor him until he stops screaming. However, he does scream when he is on my shoulder and when he flys to me.
Since Lovebirds supposedly cannot talk I cannot see trying to get him to talk to me as a way to fix this. I am not sure if he was weaned properly as I found him in a pet shop. When they brought him out he flew straight to me right away. Now when I let him out he climbs under my chin and then starts pecking at my mouth as though he wants me to share food, etc with him. I would like to see a sample of any information you may have regarding lovebirds or small parrots, such as budgies, lovebirds and cockateils.
Thank you
i have a maximillian pionus. when he plays and at other times he hangs on the side of the cage and he makes this loud noise – i don’t know if this is his natural sound or mimmicking another bird (crow sort of). very annoying. it’s like he’s really beating his toys up. i keep thinking he’s turned into a teenager because he’s snippy sometimes and other times he’s friendly to me. he’s lunges and fluffs up at my husband and acts like he’s going to bite him. so now my husband wants him gone.
I love my cockatiels ( I have too, a baby girl and a 2year old boy) But my fiance HATES them, especially the male, he screams for attention whenever he hears or sees us, I raised him from a baby and we did everything together, (I was still in UNI when I got him and I didnt have a lot of classes. Hes quite clever and speaks alot and sing songs etc. But now Im working and eventhough he has been approving lots, he sometimes still screams, (they are living with my mother in the daytime, so theyre not alone when Im at work.) Im worried that once we get married my fiance will force me to sell him or give them away, and I wont! They’re like my babies (my baby girl is a dremer and only makes girl like noises, moslty she looks amased at absolutely everything!
I really hope that I can get my boy to stop screaming with your new video!
I maintain parentage of a sun-conure and he was my son’s. We are all in the same house, but the bird is in the florida room with me most of the time. He screams for our food otherwise he dances to chacha music & other; plays with twigs and toys and loves soymilk. He goes out with me on the shoulder to do yard chores and loves it. As with people one must relate to birds and animals the same. Some need to play and rest or join in the family daily comings and goings. They need what we need. Attention, love food and treats. Love your coloum and look forward to it.
i love your help if my dad dosn’t go see him rite when he get’s home oh it’s a site
do you have any thote’s abot wiy my bird won’t talk
I have a 5 year old female cockatiel who will SCREAM whenever someone is on the phone. Regardless of where you are in the house, she KNOWS you are on the phone, and she will scream, whistle, throw food and toys around, and while we have somewhat gotten used to it at our home, people on the other line can hear her and it bothers them.
Any suggestions or ideas why?
Peach faced Conure named “Hershey” screams when I’m on the phone or watching tv (without him on my shoulder.) I try leave the room when he screams as a discouragement, but I can’t leave the room all the time because I work from home and need to be in the rooms (adjoining office/kitchen/dining) where his cage is. I love him and want to make him happy- But I realize he is acting spoiled and getting his way, because I often come get him, when he screams. Help me be a better mommy!
Will be totally AMAZING if indeed you have found the resolution to the ever tantalizing scream behavior our feathered ones introduce into our homes! As well as save the homes of feathered ones who are removed from original homes due to the people’s inability to tolerate the screaming behavior…I hope & pray you have discovered the remedy! Looking forward to what it is~THANK YOU for all your efforts to improve the co-existence of feathered ones with people/families!
Hi Chet,
First off I wanna say Thank You, for I have bought your behavior training videos, teaching to talk, as well as your grand book of tricks
. And it helped open my eyes as to why a bird would act the way it would and how to help correct the behavior if it isnt a possitive one. So I really thank you because I felt that it was common sense and I should have already known what you were saying, but it just needed to be put out there and as soon as i saw your videos, i was like, DUH! lol But really, Thank You!
I recently adopted a male GreenWing Macaw(approxamately 3 years old) 2 weeks ago from a family who just didnt have time for him anymore. So fortunately for the most part Yukko(GW’s name) is relatively a good bird. But he is a bit of a biter which im used to from working at a pet store with very mean macaws-to-parakeets and they all can bite to break skin. And i hope to correct that behavior as soon as i can put him onto a training diet. But my brother and I realized that he really likes me and is already trying to grab my hand for the “naughty” action and regurgatating his food, and he is ok with my brother when they are alone, but as soon as i enter the room he becomes really mean to everyone else and bites. I want to break this forming habit before it gets bad when other ppl come around. I’m not sure how to approach the behavior as well as deal with it when it happens and I have a husband coming home from Iraq and I really want him to be an everyone bird. I realize i just got him and he is in a total new environment and can take up to 2 years to truely settle down/be comfortable, but im not one to let bad habits form, or let them get away with it.
I thought I already left a reply…but…here I go again…I have 2 conures, 1 green cheek and 1 sun….the sun is a lover, just likes to sit with me…the green cheek is more independant and would rather me feed him and let him out then sit with me…but I love them both…the problem is, when I leave the room, they both scream…loudly…when I come home from work I can hear them as I get out of my car….when the key turns they really turn it on…screaming…..I would greatly appreciate your new dvd but I’m at work at 8 in the morning…Is there anyway I can order it now?
I own a catalina macaw, now 14. He screams when my partner walks by him or leaves “his” area. He screams when my partner stops playing with him, or even during play. Why?
He is just fine with me. Never feels abandoned when I leave becasue I tell him and wave. I know that Oscar really likes my partner, but since Oscar has bitten my partner, Ed, Ed doesn’t hold him.
I aquired Oscar from its second owner at the age of 8. It spent the first 7 years of its life in a cage until it was rescued by someone that after a year found out he could not spend enough time with it and so I purchased him.
What is the Total cost 4 this INCLUDING shiping ???????????

HELP
I have 2 lovebirds(brother and sister) and have them for about 1 year..and when i got them they were about a year..but they are driving me crazy..they scream at 8am and wake up the whole house and makes everyone mad..i have tried spraying water, covering them up,taking them out to play for like an hour and nothing seems to work ..they are not trained(except to “step up”) because i dont know how to and i cannot purchase videos because i dont have a credit card..as much as i dont want to i might have to give them away because the whole house is going crazy..the female i have bites me everytime i put my hand in the cage even to..change there food and sometimes even made me bleed..so if anyone knows any bird trainers or someone who could show me how..or even come to my house and help it would be appreciated
im also thinkking about giving one of them away…but im not sure if its a good idea since they’ve already been together for almsot a year..if anyone knows if this is a good idea why or why not let me know..thanks
I have 3 large Macaws and a older mature Yellow Nape Amazon in my office (I work from home). I was recently given a 2 year yellow nape which I have in the den. My problem isn’t the ones in my office, they don’t scream between 8:30 and 5PM, so it doesn’t interfer with me doing business and conference calls.
The problem is with the new bird, it sings opera at the top of it’s lungs all morning. I have tried the same things as with the ones in the office, rotated playtime out of their cage on to the play tree, rotated toys, treat times, etc, and it doesn’t seem to work for this bird. I tried to get him to talk instead of sing, but now he will talk some and end it with a tune. Wondering if it is because he wants to be in the office with me and the other birds. At his previous home he was the only pet, and was left most the day with the TV or radio on.
Hi Jeff,
We get your email and find it helpful But our3 year old male Eclectus is rubbing his bottom any time he gets on something soft. How long will this go on and or should we breed him?
