My cockatiel screeches that loud, annoying parrot voice and we are trying to find out a way to discourage it. I have found that he frequently does it when my husband & I are chatting in the morning over coffee (he is in same room & that can't be changed as it's in the living room). I discovered that MANY but NOT ALL times when he does this if I calmly baby talk to him saying Pretty Bird, Tiki Pretty?, Hello, etc. (these are the words and phrases he says) that he will stop the screeching and start talking back to me these same phrases/words. that will sometimes stop it and sometimes he starts again when I again talk to my husband (I am main caregiver~my bird). we live "up in the trees" you might say mainly on the upper level of our home on river with large raptors and other birds that are his natural enemies so he'll screech when he sees those flying by & I try to reassure him at those times. Works on and off. Sometimes none of these efforts help at all. Sometimes there seems to be no reason for the screeching. he is permitted to come out of his cage at the end of my work day between 3:30 and 4:30 and he likes to go to top of his cage. Flies over to me, eats dinner from my plate, etc. No screeching when he's with me but he will do it even when he's out of the cage. Any ideas? I have at times thought I was going to have to sell him and I DON'T WANT TO DO THAT. He'll be 2 yrs. old in July and is now going through the natural mating season for birds coo-cooing to the bell & mirror in his cage. Eats the papers on the floor of his cage but at least HE'S QUIET when he's doing that. Help!

My bird decides to scream when the phone rings or my husband and I are talking together. If we say his name very loud it works for about 5 minutes. Then it starts over.

I have a Australian Rose Breasted Cockatoo that in the past 2 weeks has taken to nipping at his right wing like it itches. He also jumps about the cage and screams like someone is torturing his little crazy self. He is fed and watered so that it is always fresh daily. We talk and go back and forth whenever I am home and not working. Sometimes I may not be able to spend alot of time with him daily as my hours span the full 24 on the daily clock and when I return home it may be like this morning 3am. Now he does not do this with the wife who is home. But the screaming starts soon as I open the garage door downstairs. After watching your ad on the screaming videos, would this be covered in the video? If so I may wish to purchase.

Thank you,

I have a green wing mccaw in my office, I have two problems; 1) he starts sqauking when I get on the phone; and 2) sometimes he won't stay on his gage and he want's to wander around the office.

Br the way, correct the spelling in your internet ad, change "stom" to stop.

I am not sure how you define screaming. My quaker parrot will squak during some of the day with the door to his room open and shut. The squaking normally turns into talking, then back to squaking. I define squaking as non defined verbal sounds. The squaking sometimes follows a patern and sometimes there is no decernable pattern.
I am not sure if I need you anti screaming lesson or not.

Hi Gonzo is a blue front amazon. He screams periodically if i leave the room. He will scream when i get home from work. But usually settles down if i stay in sight. if i dont stay insight he will then have a screaming fit until i return.
He has just recently started to scream if my one particular neice comes over, he will not i say will not stop until see her and she goes into his room and spends time. ofcourse this will stop it. I find with my guy its just spend time with me. he does not scream at night i dont cover him. i will however have to cover him if we have a time change he seems to get mixed up from that. OR when its breeding season he tents to go on a screaming fits...but he also gets nastier. He tends to do this sometimes not a breeding season but i think he gets his seasons mixed up b/c he is inside. covering him usually fixes this issue by covering him at sundown making him rest more.
other than that i dont think its too bad with Gonzo but when it does happen yes its enuff to make me want to scream too.

I have four parrots, my male Electus and my green cheek conure scream alot. My makle Electus screams when: the vacume is turned one, the stereo and when youre trying to watch movies/TV. When I unlock my back door to go out or let out my door, my conure goes nuts, and if we leave the room for even a moment it is even worse. Then all their screaming sets off the other two birds. Covering only helps to tune it down a little, our birds are all in the den and kitchen, which are right close together and makes themm the center of everything, yet. I am very interrested in find a way to end all the screaming.

I have a friend with a Macaw that screams all the time. She lives across the street and I can hear the bird constantly. I will be sending this to her. I also wanted to say Waynes comment was incorrectly spelled and he was correcting you about your website. I thought that was cute.

My moustache parakeet came to me as a frightened 5-month-old. The first 3 months he lived with me, he didn’t make a sound. The next 3 months, only soft sounds like the crows outside.

Then he learned to talk. Over the years, he has gotten louder and louder. When bronchitis first went through our household, he learned to cough, though it sounds more like a barking dog (are we really that bad?).

He doesn’t scream, but that barking cough or “Whatchadoin” 50 times in a row or constant “hello” while I’m on the phone are almost as bad. Why won’t he say any of the other phrases he has learned but seldom uses?

I have tried everything with my cockatoos and nothing has worked. I tried turning off the tv and lights and leaving the room, water bottles (I know this is discouraged now but at one time it was a suggestion from a behaviorist), whispering, and on and on. I have spent too much money and time to even count. I have your other CDs and I love them!!

However, my umbrella whines, cries, and screams all the time no matter what I do and my mollucan (who is a rescue) has serious anxiety issues and he screams when he is upset (which is not often but is still troublesome). HELP - I am losing my mind (and money on earplugs).

My Quaker Parrot not only screams when we leave the room but if we are eating continally bangs on his cage and screams until my husband gives him some of our food. I have tried to tell my husband not to give him the food when he does this behavior because now he associates the behavior with a "reward". How can we change this behavior?

This is to anyone out there that is SERIOUSLY considering purchasing this video series but is hesitating because they wonder if "this guy is for real" etc as I have seen posted multiple times on bird group webpages everywhere online ...

I went to middle and high school with his brother Dave in Spokane, Washington and can attest that he is indeed REAL and if he is anything like his brother, is very talented and WORTH your time and money. They are a sweet small town family...you can trust them =) Dave was kind of a local celebrity at our high school, hehe, always doing magic shows for us in our theatre. I only went to those schools for two years and it was more than enough to know he was a good guy, well liked trustworthy and respected.

If AFTER READING THIS you don't buy his course right away, subscribe to his newsletter and eventually you WILL come to know it's value, and his personal genuine generosity as he continually sends you articles that will enlighten you and spark new creative ideas for dealing with flock life. They have been VERY helpful to me---and that's coming from someone whose friends come to her for advice.

Take care and best wishes,

I am not a believer that this program can stop my Amazon from screaming...especially those times when he sees my van pull into the driveway. I am not close enough to respond/see/or hear him...but my husband sure is! Poco Loco has earned his name...

My Trident Cockatoo screams whenever anyone enters my home office. I think he is trying to protect "our nest." My family will be soooo glad to see this behavior stopped. We have to cover him whenever anyone else has office work to do. He is also already a prolific talker and I reward him every time he stops for a minute to show him the right behavior. But, he still continues to scream whenever anyone but myself is in our room. I have no other place to put his cage.

By the way Chet. I am unable to get my parrot to stay on his play gym. I have to sit right there and threaten him with a spray bottle to keep him on the gym.

I have a 10 year old (estimated) female blue and gold macaw that we have had about 18 months. She is a rescue and she was adjusting really well until my daughter got her hair cut. Now when she comes home from college the bird screams and is VERY mean and agressive to the rest of us, only wanting her. She has bitten each of us pretty severly almost breaking fingers a few times. The problem is my daughter is moving home in July and if we can't fix this problem we will have to get rid of the bird. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks

I don't have problems anymore with the screaming. I with hold his treat if he starts screaming, and so far this has worked. I first had to find the treat he couldn't live without, before this worked. My bird is the Amazon Orange Winged Parrot.

I have a sun conure. He screams everytime my phone rings and I have to shut the door so I can hear. When I go out, he tells me BYE; but the minute that I open the door when I come back he starts his screaming. He thows/drops his food in the bottom of his cage and I have to go in his room and pick it up and put it back in his bowl. I have been told that I have him SPOILED.I got him when he was a tiny baby and he took to me right away. He says a few things; but the screaming drives me nuts!! He is almost 3 years old--Will your program help or is he too far gone?????

I have a green winged macaw. We have had him for 1 year. He is a squaker when he "flies" on his perch. He squakes when I leave the room,or if he is outside by himself. I get some quietness right after his bath. He seems to concentrate on himself for about an hour. If my husband and I are talking,he really starts getting loud.I also noticed if we are doing yard work together,he really wants to interupt. He has progessively gotten worse.I am looking forward to your new dvd-I pray that this will be the answer to having a well behaved bird.

My ducourps cockatoo screams in the morning and when ever he gets worried which is often he's a very nervy bird. I can't get him to talk the only word he can/will say is 'hello' and he's turned that into a whine that you can hear right at the end of our street.

I currently have a 10 year old Green Cheeked conure that has always screamed, in the mornings in the evenings, when you turn the lights off, when you turn the lights on. Screams when anyone wears a hat around him. Screams anytime he sees something new that if fuzzy or furry. It's very annoying. I bought him a mate hopping that would help calm him down some , but it didn't appear to make a difference.
I used to have an Orange Winged Amazon that would scream the most blood curdling noise I've ever heard when you went out of sight. She was so sweet but I had to re-home her because I couldn't stand the noise, it was so loud you could hear it atleast two doors down.

My Macaw screams when ever my husband is around. They really don't like each other and the bird loves to scream and upset my husband. The bird will be talking and singing and all is fine, my husband walks in the door and the screaming starts. If I cover the cage then he will usually stop.

I have a B&G Macaw and an Mini-Macaw and they are characters. I leave the room, the B&g screams, then when I leave outside she screams and screams and screams, then pauses to say 'Knock it Off!'
The Mini Macaw will fuss and fuss and fuss and fuss, it is screaming but more squeaky.
If I sneak by the bird room and the Mini Sees me he gives a certain 'call' and then the B&G starts screaming and the two just go crazy.
If they see someone outside they scream REALLY loud, I've seen people look around as if to say 'What is THAT?!?'
They want me there when they want me there and that is all that matters to them, except that they don't want anyone else near.

1)Our Quaker, screams when:he hears his owner come home....and that is just driving in and continues screaming until he gets in the same room and won't give up until he acknowledges the Quaker (and my screaming -louder-Lineolated barred parrokeet that does the same.)
2)-Another scream is when he hears us getting up in the morning and haven't gotten downstairs 'right' away...he hears us walking around, vacuuming, cleaning etc.....and wants us already to get down and let him out of his cage.
3)-Another time he screams is when we are upstairs (out of sight)watching a movie; but can hear us talking and screams for attention or is this behavior 'a bird calling to his human flock.'?

Boy!! Does this ring a bell...or should I say, scream a bell?? With 13 umbrellas, and 2 McCaws living in two upstairs bedrooms, there`s never a dull moment in my house!!!, not to mention two cats, and a Shitzu puppy!! They are all such little entertainers when I have some of them at the salon, sweet talking, and dancing for the clients, but at home.....that`s another thing!!!!..Since home is their "comfort" zone, we do things in a regular routine manner...such as, who gets fed first, second, etc.etc., what song we play to our excersize classes, and the circulation of treats before bedtime...sounds simple, right?? Ah, not always...if I happen to go out of turn with any of these tasks....ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE!!!! The screaming begins, and ends with my blue&gold, Lucy, screaming QUI-EEEETTTT!! It`s even hard on her ears!! Once they have lowered the screaming to a low roar...I begin to sing, and so do they!! We end up in a huge singsong from room to room...no more screaming..till the next time!! My neighbors are convinced that I`m nuts, and hear "over the rainbow" over, and over!!! Just turn the screams to songs..it works around here everytime...DianMarie

My Umbrella screams if I get out of her site. She will also sometimes scream if I am next to her and not holding her but she only gets held in the evenings for about 45 min to 1 hour. Other than that she also gets some of the other birds going and the gray too. But mostly he is telling her to knock it off. she does sometimes stop if he tells her to stop.

Help with a screaming cockatoo.

Screaming is a given with such large birds. Very much the same scenario as others described above and below. I love the birds like I do my children and just tolerate them during their annoying times.......and appreciate their beauty on the good ones. I do not speak 'parrot'.....however they do speak some 'people/ so I guess that they are a little bit smarter than me. I assume when they scream, its either for attention, food, or that they are just letting off steam. Its the biting that is really 'hurting' me and my feelings. I have had a male and a female blue Mccaw since last year. They are inseparable. When our friends had first given them to us the only one that could be handled was the male. I would hand feed him through the cage and slowly began my approach to be able to handle him. Then I began holding a branch by his feet and he would step on it to come. Eventually I was able to reach my bare hand in....and he would step onto my arm. I would bring him out feed and water on a perch. Eventually the female followed. Just the past month or so the male has gotten so aggressive with me ......even when I go near the cage he lunges at the bars. When I open the cage To feed he then tries to lunge at me also. I have not been agressive or mean to them and do not know why the male has gotten so agressive and protective even over the female. Do birds have a 'heat' or mating season this time of year (Spring)? Or have my birds just grown to hate me?

Screaming is a given with such large birds. Very much the same scenario as others described above and below. I love the birds like I do my children and just tolerate them during their annoying times…….and appreciate their beauty on the good ones. I do not speak ‘parrot’…..however they do speak some ‘people/ so I guess that they are a little bit smarter than me. I assume when they scream, its either for attention, food, or that they are just letting off steam. Its the biting that is really ‘hurting’ me and my feelings. I have had a male and a female blue Mccaw since last year. They are inseparable. When our friends had first given them to us the only one that could be handled was the male. I would hand feed him through the cage and slowly began my approach to be able to handle him. Then I began holding a branch by his feet and he would step on it to come. Eventually I was able to reach my bare hand in….and he would step onto my arm. I would bring him out feed and water on a perch. Eventually the female followed. Just the past month or so the male has gotten so aggressive with me ……even when I go near the cage he lunges at the bars. When I open the cage To feed he then tries to lunge at me also.
First....What does ed mean by "his parrot is nailed to it's perch"? Scary thought. Second...try having a Mollucan that vocalizes every concievable natural cockatoo NOISE (he does not talk) at top volumn beginning at about 1:00 am and does not stop until between 5:00 and 6:00 am. There are some lulls when I manage to doze off but that doesn't last long. I am surprised the neighbors have not called the cops. Some of his screaming sounds like he is being murdered (thought has crossed my mind). He makes perfectly natural bird noises during the day. No jealousy screams, lack of food or attention, etc. Can we stop the madness while I am "sleepwalking"? I hope so or it may be Cockatoo Fricasse for dinner.

I'm so appreciative of your training and the blog comments from other bird friends. I have a Nanday Conure - I am sure no one has mentioned this bird because they are infamously noisy. A guest sat on a couch in the same room and Buddy didn't stop screaming even when our guest was out of sight but still in the house. My buddy screams with his entire body and only gets louder at attempts to quiet or calm him down.

Hello Chet,
Well my ring-necked parakeet just turned 3 on april 5th. He is so attached to me that everytime i leave the room even to go to the bathroom with the door open he screams. When we go outside he screams cause of the other birds. Sometimes when we do go for a walk he will scream because he is telling me to sit down cause i am disabled and he knows when i do need to sit down. Well that is the only time i want him to scream. I have tried the treat method where when he is quite while i am out of the room he does get a treat. That seems to work but now it is getting bad again. HELP HELP HELP!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you.

My sun conure is 2+yrs. Won't talk at all. Screams until I take him out of his cage and put him on my shoulder. He's quiet there as long as we are alone and I'm not on the phone. He belongs ON me ALL DAY he thinks. I am home most of day and he wants me to wear him continuously. If I am wearing a cotton tee shirt, he eats the trim then climbs inside and eats holes all over. If it's a button shirt, off with the buttons! Zippers, forgetaboutit, they get dismantled. I had to thow away all my winter sweat shirts and now my spring tees are going fast. He will scream when I talk to anyone on phone or in person while he is on my shoulder or on his cage. He will ride on hubby only when I'm not home. Both hubby and I are home all day and have home office jobs, so his screaming is embarrasing during phone calls. Hubby set up office outside on patio table just to get away from the noise if and when I take him off me and put him on top of his cage. On good days, he may even last there for over an hour....til he sees or hears me. Wearing him all day gets annoying if I am busy with chores and if I do not have clients or company. My tops all have poop down my back, so if the door bell rings, it's a race to change my top, put Sammy back on his cage and answer the door with the screams in the background. He will bite anyone who dares come near me. Can't hold my granddaughter as he climbs over my head to get to her and then bites every time. Need help on ALL fronts, including a sure fire way to clip the claws. My skin is getting scabby and red wherever he treads....Ouchy.

I have a blue fronted amazon, she has been with my family and I for 17 years from the age of 6 months, my problem is she has bonded very much to myself even after successfully pairing her up to breed several years ago thinking this would calm her down she still screams or shouts my name repeatedly for attention. She will fly onto my shoulder and sit there happily or wander around the back of the chair where I'm sitting, all in all I can do pretty much anything with her, she plays up to me when in season as if I'm her mate!
My problem with her is the constant attention seeking and repeated screaming and also shouting of "hello Gary" several times over at a time, it's driving me insain there is no rest bite from it. It starts first thing in the morning when she is waiting for her food, if she hears any movement in the house then that's it off she goes!
She has the company of our African Grey who tells her to "Be quiet" "What's all the noise about" and a meyer's parrot who stays out of her way!
All have there own cage and are let out every evening when I come home and clean out there cages etc.

Tell me will your program cure this problem? is there an easy solution to stop this torturious screaming apart from the obvious!...what does parrot taste like!!

Regards
Gary

We have a rose breasted cockatoo and for the most part, he's pretty well behaved...except mornings and weekends! He seems to like sending out a piercing screech every 15 to 20 minutes when we're just trying to relax. We've got him toys, good food and talk to him regularly, but we can't spend every minute with him and he seems to be getting worse. He's only 2 years old now.

HELP!!!!! PLEASE
I have a Cookctoo, named Cuddles. And he is driving us all crazy! I have tried everything I can find to stop him from screaming, biting and chasing us.
He always bites me on the nech and ear so bad, I thought I was going to have to have stitches :(
He also attacks me when I am cleaning out the Guinea pig's cages.
My other birds are so quiet and friendly that I can actually play with them.
Here lately I'm sorry to say, is I am starting to be alittle scared of him. And I don't let him out of the cage for fear he will attack me.
Anyone with a little help for me??
Thanks,have a blessed day

My husband's macaw is known as a whole new kind of doorbell in our neighborhood. She screams when the doorbell rings, our dogs bark or when she is demanding my attention.

Visitors are protected from this as we are forced to put her on a perch upstairs so she is blinded to them. So an unexpected visitor is in for a SOUND treat. Many visitors have asked me WHAT THE HECK IS THAT NOISE ? It is overwhelming and yes even embarrassing.

When the dogs bark she says STOP IT STOP IT in a deafening voice. She won't stop until they do.
Harley, the bird, decides she wants my attention - she occupies a central position in the house-she doesn't miss much and the crescendo starts.

BOY would it make life nicer to have her be quiet on command.

Hi, I have read all the above letters. My Cockatoo does the same thing. She is a rescue bird, along with my Eclectis, and African Grey. The screaming has got to stop. I can't stand it any longer!!! She screams constantly.... except when I am holding her or petting her. I have tried everything. I am looking forward to your new training program! My husband said if they had more "meat" on them they would have been in the oven by now!! ha ha..
Thanks for all the great tips you send!

I have a Quaker parrot almost 9 years old and a Sun Conure 8 years old. The Quaker talks and chatters all day long, which is not the problem. The problem is when I get a business phone call, she starts screaming and it's embarrassing and I can't hear what the customer is saying. This then gets the Conure going, like she's trying to tell Mickie to shut up. Also, when my husband comes home an we try to have a conversation they both start screaming. I think they are jealous of us talking to one another. They get plenty of attention....I guess more is never enough. When the doorbell rings they bark like dogs...both of them.

I have a 27 yr old rescue African Gray, he screams and I tell him to sing and he stops screaming. I generally let him vocalize whatever way he wishes I just try to divert his attention to the prettier sounding vocalizations. We all need to express ourselves in one way or another don't we :) I used to run in when he did it and realized that by doing that it was conditioning me to come when he called...uhm I am the mommy and you come when I call you! So if he screams he gets nothing, if it continues I tell him to sing pretty and he stops.

I have read all these letters, and all I can say is, thank goodness I have an African Grey! I was told that they are quieter than most other breeds, and whilst Charlie talks and sings and whistles, he never screams and is very well-behaved and quiet a lot of the time. I talk to him in the mornings, but after that, he occupies himself beautifully most of the time.

He is about 5 years old, and I have never had a parrot before, so I provide lots of toys, nothing expensive, just a wooden ladder, wooden eggcup and lots of cardboard boxes, which I offer him one or two at a time, and I wonder if that helps to stop any screaming, or maybe it is because I live alone and the house is fairly peaceful?

WOW! This hits home. I have a 10 year old Umbrella Cockatoo that was hand raised from 3 weeks old and has spent every waking moment with me for the first 3 years then I changed jobs and could no longer take him with me to work. The feather picking started and so did the screaming. My veterinarian had Angel for a week and says he is very offensive and hurt her feelings, the way Angel yelled at her if he did not get attention on demand. lol She recommended Prozac. How ever I chose not to medicate and have been working on behavior. She tattles on the children and screams when they are playing. My youngest moved out and we had some peace again. Now the grankids are living with us and the screaming started all over again. UGH! Angel will cry like a baby and say luv the baby, cry some more until my grey tells her to stop it.

I have an umbrella cockatoo who is wonderful if attatched to me. He is even mostly good when he can see me, but he gets very loud when I go to the other room without him. He has recently started to make this non screaming but innoying groaning sound in the evening. I travel quite a bit for work and he is an angel with my husband. When I am home his world revolves around me, Help!

My Blue-Fronted Amazon Parrot screams when my god-daughter (age 19) is here. She is here on average of three days per week. When I have company, Ruffles does not scream. I have used your clicker and it did work, but does not work with Ruffles and my god-daughter. Ruffles will scream up to an hour and then settle down. We have been ignoring the screaming cause we do not have any other solutions. I am looking forward to receiving your DVD on this matter.

Hi, Conagher is a Nanday conure (Darlene I def. understand) I have had Conagher for 12 years now and am used to the noisey calling and non- stop screaming for attention. But I recently got married and my husband HATES the screaming and yells "shut up" back at him. Now my bird pauses long enough in the screaching to yell "shutup". I am dealing with jealousy issues mostly. I was Conaghers "mate" for so long, and now he is having to share me. And my husband says i give into him too much so he screams. I just want peace in my house. Do you have parrot&husband screaming, training videos? :) I am forwarding the e-mails on to him and we are working on the "ignoring" technique. Thanks for all the help

Hi, I have a 30 yr old Double Yellow Head Amazon Buddy and a 32yr old female Snoopy. We got them about 1 1/2yrs ago. This will be their 3rd home and they have always been together thats how we ended up with 2 of them. Things were great for the first year they both talk Snoopy sings and talks alot more than Buddy. Boy do they scream! It's difficult to have a conversation. They scream if we leave the room they scream and act like they are starving when we are in the kitchen which they can see us (open concep)they pace back and forth on their cages. We use a spray bottle but that really doesn't help. It is getting so annoying because it's like I sit there and watch them close their eyes then I try to sneak out! WRONG then the screaming starts again. We have their cages open when we are home for a few hours so they can come and go where ever we are. But they would rather scream. They know how to find us and sometimes they just walk down the hall and one will find us and the other will stay out on top of it's cage and scream. No one likes them and they can't understand why we would want pets that are so loud so messy and so dangerous.
Lately Buddy has been biting me really bad just as another discribed lundges at me in his cage I am afraid of him and I dont want to be. He was so sweet I want that bird back I feel like I lost my best friend! HELP

Hi Chet,
We have a B & G Macaw, She is a Rescue Bird we got when she was 6mo old from VERY BAD CONDITIONS. We have been working very diligently with someone who grooms her and is an Owner of Parrots, to train her etc. But she screams when my husband and I try to talk, when people come over, when I am making dinner, when we take her outside, she screams @ people going down the road, when "Poppa" comes home from work, or just out of the blue she will let out a BLOOD CURDLING SCREAM for no reason !! We have had her for 7 LONG MISERABLE YEARS !! Of which I have wanted to get rid of her many many times, but just can't bring myself to do it !! Oh and yes let's not forget THE BITING !! She is always biting my husband on the back of the neck. Or just biting anywhere she can, like when we put her food dishes on her perch, try to get her out of her cage, she bites us all the time !! AND I AM FRIGGIN SICK OF IT !!!!!! She does the "Face Rub" to both of us..And the "Food Regurgitate" YUCK !! And she always wants to bite on our fingers and bobs her head like she is eating them or something, she is usually soft but can get rough, we tell her "Be Easy, Be Easy" and she usually lets up.....so we know from what we have read that she has bonded with both of us....we just cannot deal with the biting and the screaming !!

Distressed in Arizona !!

Hey, I'm here with an Amazon that squarks like mad. But we had him by a window thinking that was the best thing and now that I've moved him closer to us within the family area....he's getting better...I live around alot of people and boy everyone started complaining but the noise...don't tell anyone, but I'm not even suppose to have pets in my apartment....so you know I have a big problem....but wait, after the move from the window...his behaviour is getting better.

I had amazon parrots before this one so I'm kind of use to birds. But what I've noticed is that the younger you get the birds (atleast amazon ones) the better your chances are of any madness...because the one I had some years ago....(oh my little toby) he was bought barely with feathers and he talked like crazy. You know I can't even remember that one screaming at all. Everything I said to my children he repeated, when there were guests, he would welcome them with "hello come in". But I was moving to another location and had to sell him....

But this amazon now "shaggy" is behaving a little better now that he's moved from the window. I actually look forward to being with him on a daily basis again, the screams has not stopped totally and I still have to cover him to quiet down, but trust me it is really getting better and better everyday.

I have been an owner of Macaws for over 15 years but I just bought a baby Canindae and she doesn't stop screaming from the moment I put the key in the door. If my Scarlet or my Yellow Collar scream she will outdo both of them and drown them out.It seems that she will scream from the bottom of her feet to get the loudest scream possible. I do not take her out when she screams, I will only take her out when she is quiet. I have tried spraying her with water, covering her cage but she still screams. I have taken her from a room by herself and put her with the rest of my birds and she still screams. Please give me some helpful advice to get her to stop screaming without wringing her neck LOL! I have had her since she is 3 weeks old she is 6 months old now.
Thank you

My catalina macaw was rescued from a dark basement and only
bonded with one of my boys that is going away to college in the fall. She screams when he isn't here. Funny I feed her and clean her cage, but she bonded with him and tolerates me.
We have tried whispering and singing and playing music to stop her screaming.
I am interested in your advise.

I read DALE's comment and wondered if I had a neighbor across the street that I wasn't aware of... or maybe he's across the street on the other side of the alley!...?

My wifes rescue Military Macaw is about 11-12 yrs old. She's had him for 7. He does many of the things listed above, he lunges at the cage when he's inside, banging his already ruined beak (because he was abused previously) and chipping it even more. Sometimes I'll open the cage door to let him out or put him on a T-stand or outside, and he'll act like he's happy to see me, then Lunges at me. He IS getting better, as we've only been married for 6 months... he'll step up more regularly, but STILL sometimes out of nowhere, he'll get VERY aggressive w/ me... the hand that feeds him. He bit me REAL good once about 8 months ago (broke skin and permanently scarred my hand) so if he lunges, I'm QUICK to pull away... if he gets me again, his time will be limited...

Anyway, the SCREAMING is SO bad when we put him outside on his swing.... either when people walk down the street, or...? sometimes it looks like he's screaming at a honey bee on the ground or something...? Nothing else there. Finches maybe? Last weekend I heard him half a block down, INSIDE another building.... The screaming MUST stop!

I'll convince my wife to get one of your courses... Looks like you have some satisfied customers... and LOTS of Future customers.

Oh yeah... and it SEEMS like he's less aggressive w/ me if I wear a ball cap, which I'm almost always wearing. But today I picked him up and actually petted him while I was holding him, and he did good. No cap today either.... go figure.

i just read all the articles that was printed in your newsletter about screaming parrots. my harlequin macaw is an angel compared to some of these other parrots it does't mean that he does't scream but not as long as some of those other parrots . i have come to love him as much as my children. i think that i have to train my husband so he know when to stop screaming at him when he thinks he should be quiet . thank you for publishing this newsletter i love to read it.

My blue fronted amazon has an annoying screaming habit which can be heard from blocks around I'm sure. One of my neighbors didnt know I had birds and kocked on the door to see if I was alright! I also have an african gray who now mimics the screaming blue fronted amazon then tells himself to "knock it off". It's kind of funny for about a minute. Help....

My Eclectus sometimes appears to have a bit of a separation anxiety. If I'm running around in the morning whilst getting ready for work, he might scream a bit, or if my partner and I are talking in another room I think Morbo feels left out and will scream on occasion. I must say, though, that his screaming is fairly minimal. It seems to have lessened even more since starting some trick training with him, and also since he doesn't get a reaction from us anymore. He is generally a good bird, but your advice has still been fantastic, and much appreciated. Thank you!

i have been receiving emails from chet womack for a few months now, i really like what i see, however i hate buying things off the internet. last night my jenday conure, phoenix, greeted my husband and i at the door with his usual screaming. particularly intense he can be whenever we open and close the front door or let the dogs in or out. i figure this is like a barking dog behaviour and i ignore it because it is just a greeting. My husband on the other hand has no patience for this and proceeded to throw a set of keys at his cage. the keys exploded and so did his remote control starter, I covered phoenix's cage and left the house because i was sure if i stayed i might tell my husband to pack his things and get the hell out!
i absolutely adore phoenix as well as my husband (sometimes) but things are breaking down here and the screaming has got to stop. i to feel like ringing phoenixs neck at times and i feel like i am missing the tools to understand him correctly, obviously the yelling back is not working. All i can hope is that Chet Womack is the real deal and his intentions are on helping bird lovers and not on making money.

My very sweet yellow naped Amazonian came to me from a family with two babies and has learned how to throw a genuine toddler tantrum. So real that neighbours have knocked on the door to ask what is wrong with 'that child'. It's the usual attention thing, when I'm on the 'phone or she can hear but not see me or is bored. She is not a great talker, but mimicks very well, so when she goes outside as the village children are going to and from school, she natters away to them and they are all convinced she is having a conversation with them. (She hasn't learned to fly and I'm not about to teach her!)
