We Made It On T.V. (Sort Of)

When I say “WE” made it on TV, what I really mean is my brother Dave, and his wife Jamie made it on TV. I guess I’m just not quite as cool as them ;-)

Anyways, I thought you might like to see the short clip of them that DID make it on TV.

Both my brother and his birds are having a TON of fun with their newest endeavor, and it’s been FANTASTIC training and socializing for their birds.

And just as a side note, my brother’s stage name is “David Davinci”, so don’t get confused when you watch the video and here that name.

If you’d like to come out and see Dave and his birds at a “LIVE” show, check out his touring schedule to see if he’s going to be touring through a city near you soon. He’d love to have you come and say hello at one of his shows!

This is so cool! Funny….but I almost feel proud of them…..like we’re friends or something. I’ve been a fan of “Birdtricks” for a very long time now and feel like I know all of you. Good job, Dave and Jamie!…..oh and you too……uh, what’s your name again…..?…..lol

Only one word to describe it!

Awesome!

Dianne Yonan  01/26/2010 10:55 am

That is very cool. Hope the circus animals are indeed treated well. I’ve heard so much about the opposite being true. Kudos to David and Jamie.

Im so disappointed with you guys! This mad me so sad to know that you guys have joined the circus. I do not support circuses that have animals because they do abuse the elephants. Please tell your brother that if he is to be involved to please pay attention to his surroundings and that if he does witness abuse for him to please not be afraid to lose his job but to stand up for what is right!

I love your bird tricks cd’s etc but I can not support this.

Thank you so much for sending the post! Your bro will be performing in my town (Tallahassee, Fl) in 2 days at the circus- we got tickets, and I can’t wait to see the birds!

I hope I can see Dave and Jamie come to the Boston Area with the Circus. I will check the schedule. I cannot imagine that the circus in 2010 is mistreating the animals. The protestors that are against people owning animals better get their fact straight and present proof before they file charges. Here in the People’s Republic of Massachusetts, the dog tracks were eliminated when a referendum passed in Nov. 2008. I voted against it, I don’t think dogs are mistreated, plus, many jobs were eliminated and also the state lost revenues. What will happen next? Will all horse tracks be eliminated from Massachusetts or the entire US? They way this country is heading, we are getting there. I own two parakeets and a Panama Amazon. I have been training my Amazon, she is a year and half old. She loves me very much and we have lot’s of fun together.

Macaws are a beautiful bird. They look great. Keep up the great work. My white cockatoo loved them to.

Great clip and glad to see they’re part of the Big Top. Would love to learn more about their annual free flight regime. How it started, was planned for and how it works.

Shame that me and my birds are so far away! Dave and Jamie’s birds are really going to love this. Lots of action, noise and the chance to show off. Good luck for the tour – and get in there next time, Chet.
Best wishes

Make sure you come an hour early to the show time posted, as there is a preshow that happens then and Dave and I will be walking around with one or two of our birds for you to meet! :)

Suzette (and everyone else with the same reaction to this entry),

Of course Dave and I had concerns because of the terrible things said about circuses, but we did our research and our contract was so great for the animals that that is what made us want to join up in the first place. There’s zero tolerance for lack of respect with animals in the Ringling Circus, and we have (like all the performers) an entirely separate contract we all abide by strictly on treatment of animals. For example, animal compounds are to be set up before anything is done for the people. And animals always have the right of way no matter what the setting. No one is allowed to approach an animal unless asked to by the animals’ trainer… and all the animals in the show don’t even belong to Ringling. We are all hired for our “acts”. So no one touches our animals unless we ask them to – we are the only ones feeding, training, handling, or even transporting our birds and it’s like that with ALL the animals, including the elephants.

We’ve already worked closely with the elephant trainer in our show and he is AMAZING! He uses apples, loafs of bread and carrots (all locally grown and purchased) as treats for the elephants for a job well done. We have a video at our channel of us getting Suzie (one of the Asian elephants in the show) used to our Camelot Macaw, Comet. They were both unsure of each other but we were able to get them close to one another. We need to do an updated video because since then, all the elephants do great in the bird’s company now since they’ve been performing together for over a month now.

Anyway, we ended a contract before based on a terrible tiger trainer we were around and we won’t stand for sitting by and watching animal abuse. But also don’t believe everything you read or see, because one trainer shouldn’t ruin your perspective on the rest. Also, I am constantly updating about our birds life on the road, and how they are incorporated into the circus. I hope you take the time to browse some of the posts and see what a positive experience this not only is for us, but for our animals as well:

I really congratulate Dave and Jamie!

To the PETA supporters (myself included), they are adults, I’m sure they have thought this out.
I don’t see how you can’t support them as performers with an individual act. They don’t mistreat their birds and I’m sure they will not be poking and prodding the elephants.

Congrats guys and good luck to you both!

Danielle  01/26/2010 10:24 pm

I guess you can take my post off. I was trying to support them with that negative link. I see you took it off, so there is not need to post my response. I do congratulate you guys. Great going!

Bonnie  01/26/2010 11:02 pm

loved this!I have 3 birds but I am the one that is trained. My birds love showing off for people tho and I imagine yours are having a ball.

Crystal West  01/27/2010 9:55 am

Congrats Dave and Jamie on your new adventure with the Circus. I understand Suzette’s fears and concerns because of “Horror Stories” in the News, and Jamie soothed me so much with her comments and explanation of Ringling Bros. “We Really Care” Policies. What better position could you (Dave and Jamie) possibly be in to insure these Policies are witnessed and adhered to. When I was a kid, my uncle (Jim Dollard) was Captain of the “Hawiian Packer” ship, and that was one of my greatest Memories, watching Ringling Bros./Barnum and Bailey, unload the animals off the ship at Los Angeles, coming from a performance in Hawaii. Thanks to all our Bird Tricks family for having such caring hearts and encouraging each other. You all Inspire me. Love Ya!

Your brother and sister are a good looking couple.

Hey Michelle and Bruce,

If you get to read this, THANKS for coming to the show in Tallahassee, FL tonight! You guys were an awesome audience, and it was a pleasure to get to meet you and share our birds (and elephants & lions) with you.

If there’s anything we can do for you, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

warmest regards,
Dave & Jamie

Lisa Davidson  01/29/2010 2:11 am

That is great!
And…I hope to try and make the tour to say “Hello”
But, Sheesh Chet, you may not be as ‘Cool’…but aren’t you cuter?
~lol~

Chet  01/29/2010 2:35 am

I am cuter, aren’t I ;-)

Michele & Bruce  01/29/2010 10:12 am

We had a magical evening thanks to Dave and Jamie!
This was my Husband’s FIRST circus, and he had so much fun, he’s ready to go again – or “run away to join”!
I cannot say enough about the care that was shown to the animals – as animal lovers and activists, this is a very important issue to us both.
As a nurse of some (!)… years- my observations included: excellent nutritional and hydration status, as well as the sparkling eyes that showed overall good health in ALL of the animals we saw. They were treated with unmistakable love and respect. I honestly feel that they were having fun too!
As far as the circus perfomance: I have always loved the traditional top-hat ringmaster and the trappings of the “greatest show…” But –
The awesome energy and magic that we experienced from this incredible illusionist was a welcome breath of fresh air. Dave and Jamie added top-notch professionalism in such a colorful and artistic way that it was all we could do to stay in our seats!
Thank you for helping to modernize a great concept.
Most of all, thank you for those beautiful moments when your flying jewels soared across the stage. It gives my heart wings.
Best successes to you: you guys ROCK!
Sincerely,
Michele & Bruce Holzman..
