my birds ARE MORE THA PETS. my birds let me know when its bed time. when i put them to bed, then, when i come to bed later, they get up on my chest and arm and behind my head. they wake me up in the morning by, putting their heads under my chin. they are more humane than birds.

My baby Cosmo, a Jenday Conure, picked me out as I was walking through a local pet store. He was just a bundle of personality. I didn't think I even liked birds until I met him. I didn't want to leave the store without him though. My husband and I left, ate lunch, and went back and bought him. He was not weaned yet so I could not take him home that day. After receiving a 2 day crash course on feeding a baby bird I was sent home with Cosmo. I have to admit weaning a bird is a wonderful bonding experience. I was so afraid I would hurt him, I read everything I could find on parrots and especially conures.
Two years later, while at a bird mart, we met a wonderful 2 year old Military Macaw. My husband had to have him. I was scared to death of the beak. I finally broke down and said if he will come to me without biting me you can have him. (I knew I would be the major caregiver.) He stepped right up and came home with us. Unfortunately for my husband he kind of became my bird. Actually he just wants to bite my husband now. He is a big cuddle bug with me though. I love my birds like family and they are extremely well cared for. I would not trade them for the world. I am actually looking forward to adding maybe one more bird to our little flock.
We do belong to a companion bird club but it is in a neighboring town and is not always easy to get to all of the meetings.
