Wheat Grass for Parrots

Wheat grass is a super food for your bird, it is SO healthy for them. Although it contains a lot of iron, so with everything, moderation is key but this one food you don’t want your bird missing out on!
Why Wheat Grass?
- It can detox the liver (helping graciously for birds with fatty liver syndrome) and it neutralizes pollutants. Wheat grass can be served as the grass or even as a juice (which is how people consume it)
- Improves blood circulation and gets rid of blood toxins (helping with anemia)
- It contains Vitamin A, C, E and B in their raw and most effective state.
- A great source of calcium.
- Wheat grass helps build a strong immune system so your bird handles stress and fights off infections easier.

Although you can plant and grow your own wheat grass where you live if you want, I buy these cups called Le Grass Cafe of wheat grass and they can grow back up to 3 times after a bird has eaten it! It’s a great sized portion for my birds to share and tends to keep them busy for a while.
They started off playing with it and got a taste for it and LOVED it. I put it in their aviaries on the ground or in their feeders and let them go to town on it. My three medium sized birds share it and take turns eating and playing with it, and my macaws do the same.
You can find these cups online by doing a search for “Le Grass Cafe” or you can go to a whole foods store and buy a flat chunk of it and toss it at the bottom of your own aviary for your bird to enjoy. Just like they sell flats of grass for lawns, they also sell them of wheat grass and they can be super useful for parrot owners looking for a great way to introduce the grass to their birds.

Here is a video of my birds eating it here.
