Eclectus Parrot

If you are looking for a unique parrot, one who blends into families and is quiet and gentle, then you have found the right place. We at Bird Tricks have just the parrot for you. It is every bit as unique as the name. It is called the Eclectus Parrot.

This lovely parrot is unique in two different ways.
  • The first is their dimorphic coloration. Males are usually green with red feathers under the wings. The females are a rich red with different colored bands on their tail feathers.
  • The second is the hair like quality they have in the feathers on their heads, necks, breasts, and bellies. Each feather has single strands, instead of being all melded together like other parrots are.

The Eclectus behave differently than other parrots and their signaling communication is also different.

Their unusual quiet and calm demeanor is different from other parrots as well. What would put other parrots into a tail spin of action to escape does not even bring the Eclectus to its feet. The Eclectus Parrot does best in a home that is organized and calm. However, they can withstand quite a bit of noise and not react to it, which makes them a very handy pet.

For diet, this parrot eats nuts that have been shelled. You will see them diving into a dish of fruit and vegetables as well. Many of them simply don’t care what they eat, as long as they are eating.

As with other parrots, hand raising these marvelous animals is the best way to go. This way they are used to human touch and love from the beginning of their lives. This also goes a long way to helping them become more family friendly.

To enjoy your Eclectus Parrot, you will need to have a room set aside just for him, plus know that bringing friends into the house will have to be done on appointment basis only so the bird can get the care and rest in the home that it needs.
