What I'll Miss Most
I'm writing this brief message to you today
in complete sadness. As I've just discovered
we lost 'Ricky' today :-(
Ricky was my wife Sally's, Parrotlet, and we
cherished him dearly.
He had spent the last of his days becoming
very close to me, as I moved his cage into my
home office, where we could chat, talk, and
play in the office all day.
He had the complete run of the whole place
and was having a ball with life -- until he
passed away late last night.
I hate that sinking feeling of walking into a
room and something just doesn't seem right...
... there's no squawking, or cute little birdie
chatter. Just a lifeless body, where there used
to be so much heart, playfulness and love.
So obviously my heart is heavy this morning,
and I needed someone to share my sadness with,
so I thank you for listening, and will leave you
with this.
I'm NO poet, but it's from my heart...
*** What I'll Miss ***
Goodbye my little Ricky, I'll miss you very much
Your sweet little cooing noises, and your gentle
little touch.
I'll miss your playful nature, and your cutest
little voice
I'll miss the way you'd begged to play, not giving
me another choice
I'll think of you and smile about the loving times
we shared
And wish I could pet you on your favorite spot to
let you know I cared
I'm so thankful for the memories that you let us
share with you
And will miss you very dearly Ricky, and Sally sure
will too
***
I still do not know what caused Ricky's death. He
had spent all of yesterday playing quite cheerfully
and was not moping around like sick birds usually
do.
And even though I've been harping on bad pet shops
lately, I wanted to let you know that Ricky's death
was NOT due to a bad pet shop.
However it serves as a gloomy reminder that our
little bird's lives are fragile, and we should take
as many precautions as possible to keep them healthy.
So do me a favor today and spend a few extra moments
with your parrot.
Maybe spend an extra 30 minutes stroking the back
of his head while you watch some TV tonight, or take
him in for a fun bath if that's what he likes.
But do something fun with him... because you just
never know if it's the last bit of fun you'll
ever get to have with your bird.
I know I'm glad I took some extra time this week to
play with Ricky. It makes me feel just a little bit
better knowing his last days were some of his
happiest.
Thanks for listening
Sincerely,
Chet Womach

P.S. My wife Sally is pretty down from all this, so
if you are the praying type, I'm sure she could use
a few people praying for her today. She loved Ricky
very much.

Florina said: Dear Chet & Sally! I am soooooooooooo saddened and very very sorry for your loss Ricky. I am sobbing. I wouldn't know what to do if Babee were to leave forever. Afterall, we sleep together everynite. And yes, she gets showers & baths, and is the ususal ham of the house. I am just very fortunate, that i have the best birdcaretaker, when i am away on a holidae. (he was in a film, too.) not gonna mention his name, cause i just read this, & don't have his permission. But I sincereley wish you both all my best regards, & keep up your great work!!! Maybe you can get an umbrella cockatoo? :-)

I am sorry for your loss, I know how you feel :( I recently lost my Indian Ringneck named Ravi. Sometimes I think I hear her chirping in the morning and then I realize it's just wishful thinking.
We are saying a prayer over here for you and your wife...Ricky will be missed but never forgotten by those who knew and loved him.

Hi Chet!
I'm receiving your emails about parrot training and today I finally got time to read the most recent ones.
I'm so sorry to hear you lost your Ricky. Not all people understand a grief after the losing a birdie...they say " It's not a dog." Many of my friends were knocking on their foreheads when I cried after my Tiel Lola died.
But I understand. They are so tiny and fragile and you amy never find out why Ricky died...and it's not important now. The most important is the fact he had a great life, he had a family who cared about him and provided the best possible care he needed. He's now over the Rainbow Bridge flying free with all other birdies and he's watching after you as your Guardian Angel.
Prayers and hugs and scritches to your wife and you.
Katie

Dear Chet,
A beloved pet is hard to loose and my wife and I feel for you. We have a parrot that we feel we aren't being fair to because of our exstensive traveling and which we inherited from our son and daughter in law who gave Max up to us because of their busy work scheudle. If you or any one else would like to adopt Max from us and give her a good home please contact me at the E-mail address below.

Chet and Sally...
My heart goes out to you. I, too, lost a bird last week and my whole family has been devastated.
I recently adopted a Green Wing Macaw, Tasha, who came from a loving home ... so loving that they wanted the best for her. They didn't have the time she needs... and she and I connected the first time we met. So, Tash came home with me...and we are doing well. But, I have this nagging in my heart because Luke died just last week...and I started doubting myself. What we have to remember is the love they gave us, the love and care we gave them...and sometimes things happen that we just don't understand or have control over.
Know that you both are in my prayers. Ricky is smiling down on both of you from a perch somewhere near the Rainbow Bridge.... He'll be waiting for you when it is your time to cross. In the meantime, he is flying free....
Thank you for all you do.

Hi Chet,
Sorry to hear about Ricky. Why were you moving him to your office? You should try to find out what killed him so that it doesn't happen to another bird. I hope you don't use toxic cleaners/sprays/air fresheners. You might want to get in touch with www.avianmedicinechest.com - they have excellent products. Have saved 2 of my birds lives using their products. Pet Medicine Chest remedies get to the root cause of pet illness.
Best of luck,
Monica

Hey Chet! I've got all your emails. Remember me, Brent? I also use Blogger. Otherwise, I'm so, so, so sorry to hear that Ricky died. I would be as heart-broken as you if my birds died. It's a very sad situation about Ricky since I love birds also. Try to cheer up a little bit & get a better one. If you can't, just don't be sad. Of course, I'm always sad if a bird dies. So just relieve yourself. Thanks for sending me some emails Chet.

it is very sad when a pet dies i have had it happen many times in many different ways one of whitch that upset me the most was when my budgie, buddy, was killed by a dog biting him. my friend bought her dog inside my place and it just pounced on my bird and bit it. my bird died in my hands........
then there was another bird, bingo the best budgie in the world, he was one in a million, no i am not bragging or exagerrating. we got buddy, my budgie, from a pet store. he had been there since he was born and had never been handled before. i picked him up and he was completly tame. he jumped on my shoulder, he played with me, he danced to music, he liked water, that was funny he kept on trying to swim in the sink when my mum did the dishes. he could even talk. i used to teach him a few tricks like down.
my most recent birds are amber and pretzel. they both love me its obviouse. pretzel won't bite me, but he bites everybody else. pretzel was wild when we first got him. not from the wild, just wild. you have no idea how many times i was bitten, scratched, cut and even hit by pretzel flying right into my face. ow!
then theres amber. she is very patient.... with me.... like pretzel she only doesn't bite me.
she will lay on her back in my hands. once i even put her in a dools pram on her back and she just lay there. she knows a few tricks. all my birds have danced to music at least once but budy and bingo were the ones who danced the most
